The Sacramento Film and Music Festival is Looking for Music for The 2010 Sac Music Seen Program

Sac Music Seen pairs local musicians with local filmmakers to create music videos.  Dumbworld has participated a few times, and it is always good to see your work on the big screen (which is always a learning experience). The deadline for music submissions is March 26th.  See sacfilm.com for more info.

Natasha Kmeto Drunk Dial Music Video Playing at the Sacramento Film and Music Festival- Shot and Edited by Dumbworld

Natasha Kmeto Still from Drunk Dial Music Video

A music video I worked on with Natasha Kmeto, Ryan Seng, and GuerillaPromo! is playing at the Sacramento Music and Film Festival, 8pm at the Crest Theatre
1013 K Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Below are some comments on the music video shoot from the artist herself, Natasha Kmeto:

I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since my promoter, MLPicerno (GUERRILLPROMO!), brought the idea to work with Dumbworld Productions and
Ryan Seng on a music video to me.  Participating in the production of this video was a blast!  I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with on my first music video.  Remembering the shoot, I thought I’d share some fun facts about the video with you:

 – “Drunk Dial” was shot over the course of two days in an empty business space in downtown Sacramento.

– The set was designed and constructed completely by Ryan Seng. Most everything was made of cardboard and
hand-painted by him including the cell phone, TV, computer and plastic ice cubes (freaking awesome).

 – Drew Hall and Jayson Woodward of Dumbworld create really great shots and lighting with virtually no crew (they are indie bad-asses!).

– Our producer, MLPicerno, was my wardrobe and make-up goddess, my acting coach and our “raindrop” wrangler (our raindrops were shiny paper scraps) amongst many other things.

– I had to be talked into wearing those really short shorts and see-through top.

– The table Jamaal Robinson and I are on top of was not really big enough to support us both, but we spent hours on it anyway! Straddling someone who you just met wearing not much clothing is surprisingly less awkward than you think after a while (Jamaal made it easy on me).

– Yes, the scotch was actually scotch, but not J&B….it was Johnny Walker Red.

– Blak Rik Rubin (Dumbworld) did an awesome job with the editing…it needs to be said.

All in all, this experience was really, really gratifying and fun for us all and I think we came up with a great result!

Local Feature Film Sensored to Open the 2009 Sacramento Film and Music Festival

Last year, I wrote about the feature film Sensored that was being shot entirely in Placer County and the City of Sacramento and directed by local talent Ryan Todd.  The film stars Robert Picardo (Star Trek Voyager) as delusional children’s author Wade Mixon.

Sensored will open the Sacramento Film and Music Festival on Friday July 24th at 8pm, preceded by a 6:30pm reception, catered by Rubio’s, followed by an after party at Cosmo Cafe with cast and crew (go here for entire the festival schedule and ticket information and here for more information on Sensored).

The Insertion of Handsome Dave: First Date

So i see you have returned for another “round” of insertion. Are you ready for true “mental” penetration?

Today’s session will be a quick reference guide for dating..places to go..things to do and say that may lead you to your dates metaphoric and literal door step..These are suggestions, they are in no way a fool proof plan, for the mind of a woman is a complex web of tricky go betweens, swicharoos and back alley sneakiness

Now from my experience i found that if you are taking a woman out to eat dinner or lunch for the first time. You want to make sure that you go to a place that has food that will not drip too easy or make your breath smell like a bag of funoins and saurkraut. If you are planning to spend the whole evening with her (which is the point right) then any food with beans or broccoli is a bad idea due to the fact they both cause gas. (No girl wants to smell your anal sepage and you dont want to be in your hole 13 putt at miniature golf course and leave a cloud of smoke.

Eating food that is high in protein is a good idea to keep a high level of energy and do not, I repeat do not over eat. It makes you look like a pig and its hard to move if you are stuffed like a thanksgiving turkey. Make sure that you eat some kind of bread with dinner as well. It will absorb the alcohol that you will later want  to consume with your date. You want to keep your wits about you and not be a sloppy drunk.

Now is know it sounds a little old fashioned but when you pick her up open her car door for her when you are walking to your car. If your are parked on the street your door is on the other side anyway.

You want to make sure that you have your evening planned ahead of time. Women like men that have a plan of actiion you dont want to be sitting asking “So.. what do you want to do or like to do?” Its a waist of the valuable time that you have to complete your mission. A simple phone conversation prior will give you the oppurtunity to find out what she likes to do. And plan accordingly. Try to involve two aspects to the night. Do not go to the movies. You’re suppose to be quiet at the movies not a good idea if you are trying to get to know the girl.Due to the lack of talking ,the movies are a great third and fourth date idea if you have already been “invited in” ;).

First date suggestions include:

Dinner and Dancing (but beware if you are not a good dancer it may take you out of the running for what i refer to as the “Come on in”. As well as dancing requires movement which will lead to a not so fresh feeling, for you and her. Although if you are an experienced man then it will be an oppurtunity for you to try and take a shower with her when and if you get the “Come on in”. But dancing with give you an oppurtunity to see how close you can get to her and where she is willing to let you put your hands. Make sure that its not a busy night club. Go to a smaller bar that has a dance floor. But you do want some people to be dancing so your date is comfortable.

Ice cream and miniture golf. Now if your date is no fun at all, this wont work..The ice cream part only requires a little of your time and make sure no cone for you. Ice cream melts and you dont want it on your shirt or shoes. Miniture golf provides you with the chance to get close if she has never been before. Usually miniture golf places have other things to do as well such as; air hockey, video games and chances to win your date a souviner. Souveniers are great on a date because a woman will usually put it on her dresser or desk when she gets home and if things went well it will be a visual reminder of you and your good qualities. But it can also be the opposite if the date ends poorly.

Now compliments are good. but you dont want to complement her on something that she has no control over. Like her eyes ..yes she may have beautiful eyes but they are god  givin. Now here are some ideas for compliments; Shoes, she picked them out so its a good way to go, her hair is another good one, many woman spend a while looking for that right hair do and love to hear that they picked the right hairstyle.

Now these are just the first round of suggestions. i will return next week with round two but i am goin to leave you with this last tip for this week

The main thing is you want to keep it fun. No one likes to be bored especially woman. Why do you think they like that “Bad Boys”? Its because they dont know whats goin to happen next when they are with him. Spontinaity is the key

Thank you for opening up and letting me in

Nightbeats Behind the Scene Video, the Sacramento Film and Music Festival, and Paper Hearts Trailer

Awhile back, I had the opportunity to  see Sacramento filmmaker Mike Carroll shoot a scene from his feature Nightbeats.  I was a fan of his feature Year, so I jumped at the chance to shoot a small amount of behind the scenes footage, which is included in the video above.

nightbeats poster

Mike is unique in that he does one man, no-budget filmmaking; he writes, directs, produces, lights, and edits his films.  He also gives workshops on his process, and has plans for a book.  Obviously, he must be doing something right because Nightbeats was accepted into the Sacramento Film and Music Festival

The festival runs from July 24- August 2, and although the schedule of films for the festival has not been posted yet, from what I’ve heard, there should be a lot of really good films this year, including the Sundance award winning mockumentary, Paper Hearts, starring Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Super Bad, Year One).  See the trailer below.

Also, I heard that the festival is looking for volunteers, so if you are into film and are interested, you can contact them on their website.

Dumbworld Video and Film Productions to world premiere the short film, King of Funk as part of the 10X10 Challenge program of the Sacramento Film and Music Festival

Sacramento, California, USA – At the beautiful and historic Crest Theatre, August 16th at 7:30pmDumbworld is proud to present the short film King of Funk.

King of Funk is a dark comedy starring Hollywood-bound Joey Sab, as the music superstar Chucky Funk (formerly Charles David Smith).  The year is 1973, and Charles finds a magical ring of funk that promises the owner fame and fortune, but for the owner of the ring—beware—you dig?

The film was created (from script to screen) in 10 days as part of the 10X10 Challenge of the Sacramento Film and Music Festival and was shot mostly in Folsom, California.  The 10X10 challenge gives filmmakers a theme (this year it was “rings”), a prop (Dumbworld’s prop was a retro red suitcase) and 10 days to make a film.

The film also stars Folsom native Emily Jones as Scarlett and was produced in conjunction with another Folsom native, Laura Chick of Chick Flick Productions.

The Bennys– We Be One– Sac Music Seen and Results of Bass Rocs premiere ( Bennys Music Video starts about 9 minutes in)

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Saturday night was the Sac Music Seen program of the Sacramento Film and Music Festival, where over 20 music videos from local filmmakers, paired with local musicians were shown.  Lots of really cool videos (too many to name– and I’d say that the quality of videos was a giant step up from last year).  Starting off the night was a short documentary about the Sac Music Seen, followed by the Bennys video for We Be One (directed by Erik Espera and John Jiminez).  Fun stuff.

Also, we had a music video (Mr Volcano– Bass Rocs) that premiered at the program.  A definite learning experience.  It didn’t look up to par on the big screen.  Two words– NTSC Monitor (Or is that 5 words?).  As in, we have to use one– mine is broken.  Very dissapointing, but again- it was a learning experience.  There is always next year.  Mr Volcano and Lil V came through– which was cool. I have a little video from the event that I will try to post if I get time this week.
