Cinco de Mayo Outdoor Fiesta

Looking for a 2010 Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Sacramento?

They are doing their yearly Cinco de Mayo celebration/festival on the 2700 block of J street again this year (includes Centro Cocina Mexicana and Harlowes).  If you haven’t been before, it is a huge party (go early to get in, or stand in line for awhile).  Starts at 4pm on May 5 till they shut it down.  There will be live music, a mariachi band and outdoor bars. Congratulations to Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Tyrekes

Congratulations to Tyreke Evans on the Rookie of the Year honors.  Very cool for Sac.  Jay from Dumbworld has the trademark on the Sacramento Tyrekes (feel free to use that one).

Sacramento Filmmaker’s Horror Movie to Get National Theatrical Release

We slept on this because that is what we do best, but for an independent filmmaker out of Sacramento to get theatrical distribution is a pretty impressive accomplishment.  Congratulations Deon! I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.  If you know of any, let me know.

Sacramento filmmaker Deon Taylor is on the verge of a huge breakthrough: a national theatrical release for his horror film, “Chain Letter,” that was filmed here.

Exit Through The Gift Shop

Saw a poster for this (Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop) and was intrigued.  Sorry, Sacramento hasn’t been deemed cool enough to get a showing.

heArt for the Kids

Later this month, Shane Grammer of SG studios is taking a team of artists to Svay Pak, Cambodia to paint murals with girls who were either rescued from or in danger of being forced into prostitution.

He is throwing a fundraising art show on April 8, 2010 that will include a silent auction of some of his work, along with the work of Aman, Jenvy Fox, and many others.  There will also be musical interludes by Dusty Brown, special guests, cocktails, food and a good vibe.

Above is part of one of the paintings that will auctioned off.  Shane explains some of the inspiration behind it below: Continue reading

Dumbworld Asks, What is the Best Burger in Sac?

Lindol French, from Sacramento Press  is new in town and an “auteur” (Ok- I had to look it up too-  it’s a classy way of saying a film director, or an author, but I’m not sure which one he is), and he decided to rate Sacramento cheeseburgers.  The Squeeze Inn rated surprisingly low- 7th out of 7, and I had heard so many good things about it.

My vote is for Willie’s– hands down (and for some reason it has to be the one on Broadway, although I used to live next to the one in Carmichael), but what is a good place to get a burger in Sac?  Damn, I’m hungry.
