Sacramento Metro Edge Night with the Kings and April Second Saturday Pre Party

For young professionals in the Sacramento area, watch the Kings versus the Clippers on April 8, 2010 with Sac Metro Edge for $19.50 for upper level tickets.  Your tickets include a special pregame mixer with Kings Senior VP of Business Operations John Rinehart, who will discuss the “Business of Pro Sports.”

Halftime show by Sacramento artist, David Garibaldi (I remember when dude used to paint at Fox and the Goose and had just quit his job at a bank, to paint fulltime.  A great story).

Deadline to buy ticket is April 1st.  The mixer is for Sac Metro Edge members only.  More information on membership here.

Also, Sac Metro Edge is having a Second Saturday Pre-Party at the MARRS building (20th and J Streets) on April 10, 2010 from 5-7pm.  It is free to guests of Sac Metro Edge members.  Go here for more information.

10 Tips for Networking for Filmmakers in the Sacramento Region

From the Capital Film Arts Alliance’s Newsletter, 10 Tips for Networking for Filmmakers. In part, it is based off a list for London filmmakers (my people!!!) from Raindance.org.

I don’t usually post entire articles, but this is worth it. If you are a filmmaker in the Sacramento area, and you aren’t a CFAA member, go to CFAA meetings, or don’t receive the weekly newsletter, you should be (contact them and ask to be added to the list.  Tell them Dumbworld sent you).  Whatever meager amount of success Dumbworld has had is in part due to Laurie Pederson and networking with the CFAA, and like Laurie says, “It is not what you know; it is who you know.”

Remember the power of little notes that Leonard Shelby used in Chris Nolan’s film. Use his tips even if you have not “this condition” – use the power of business cards. Take and collect them from anyone who gives them to you: you might not know when you need a help of make-up artist or a professional florist. Make your own business cards especially for your filmmaking “you”. If you are a student you can use some cheap resources – like free business cards templates or www.vistaprint.co.uk

Metro Edge, a Program of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, for Young Leaders and Professionals

EDGE_Logo

The other day, I had the opportunity to attend the “soft launch” of Sac Metro Edge at the Lounge on 20 in downtown Sacramento– and I am excited for the development and networking opportunities that Sac Metro Edge looks like it should provide.  Sac Metro Edge, is a program of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, and its mission is to attract and harness young leaders and professionals.  The full launch is in September.  Definitely worth getting involved in.
